This
is an important chapter as it unfolded right in front of my eyes. While preparing this
manuscript my mother was rushed to Long Beach Memorial Hospital here in California. It's a
hospital that I practically grew up in because my dad was one of the first open-heart
surgeries to be done there. So I was very familiar with this hospital, in particular. At
any rate my mother went in for an ordinary bowel obstruction surgery and all was well
until they gave her morphine, and then another drug called Haldol, which made a bad
situation even worse. The combination threw my mother into a tunnel of pain and agony, not
to mention the entire family for nearly three months! This was an already trying time in
our lives, for each and every one of us. I know this happens maybe once in awhile but the
story behind the story in this case must be told. |
